It’s embarassing how cute these pictures of my parents’ new baby raccoon neighbors are.
My mom’s description of how it all went down:

This afternoon we discovered these little critters in our driveway, surrounded by our three cats… who were just curious as cats can be… and these little babies were completely unafraid of Tiny. To not back down when a terrier is growling?  Hmmm… you guessed it. It was our cherry trees they were after. They made a detour into the planter in the driveway, but once we put the cats in the garage, the dog in the house and they got used to Salvador snapping pictures, they hightailed it for the cherry tree. Just to give you an idea of size, they are at most 4 to 5 pounds tops. About the size of a three month old kitten and just as seemingly docile from 3 to 6 feet away of course. Obviously we know better than to touch them, try to pick them up, or ‘rescue’ them, as I am sure their mother is somewhere close by.  It was like watching baby monkeys, though, just learning how to climb. They had the essence of a koala the way they looked at us and sniffed like a dog, but they had a very intelligent look in their eyes.  I don’t really want to meet their mother, but thankfully she is probably completely nocturnal.  Of course, she was sloppy on the job today, but cherries are cherries.
